Testament Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDDEE FGFGHHE IJIJKKLL HMHMNNHH

I feel I'd like to be aloneA
with you friend if you'll stayB
my time on earth is nearly goneC
at least that's what they sayB
And you'll be going home on leaveD
mind you what odds I do believeD
to tel the truth not manyE
will give a brass halfpennyE
-
If anyone should ask of youF
well anyone at allG
you tell them where that bullet flewF
right through the chest one ballG
'He died with honour for the Tsar'H
and say how bad our surgeons areH
'and to his habitationE
he sent his salutation '-
-
You'll likely find that my old dadI
and mother both are deadJ
I wouldn't want to make them sadI
or send them tears to shedJ
but if you find that they're all rightK
just say I haven't time to writeK
the regiment's campaigningL
and there's no use complainingL
-
They've got a woman neighbour thereH
God knows how long agoM
we parted She will hardly careH
to ask you Let it goM
tell her the truth leave out no partN
no need to spare an empty heartN
she'll shed a tear or two thereH
but it means nothing to herH
