Sonnet Xl: My Heart The Anvil Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDDCDCEF

My heart the anvil where my thoughts do beatA
My words the hammers fashioning my desireB
My breast the forge including all the heatA
Love is the fuel which maintains the fireB
My sighs the bellows which the flame increasethC
Filling mine ears with noise and nightly groaningD
Toiling with pain my labor never ceasethC
In grievous passions my woes still bemoaningD
My eyes with tears against the fire strivingD
Whose scorching gleed my heart to cinders turnethC
But with these drops the flame again revivingD
Still more and more it to my torment turnethC
With Sisyphus thus do I roll the stoneE
And turn the wheel with damned IxionF
