Prefixed To William Browne's Britannia's Pastorals (1613). - To His Friend The Avthor. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCBCBCDCDECFCCGCG

Driue forth thy Flocke young Pastor to that PlaineA
Where our old Shepheards wont their flocks to feedB
To those cleare walkes where many a skilfull SwaineA
To'ards the calme eu'ning tun'd his pleasant ReedeB
Those to the Muses once so sacred DownesC
As no rude foote might there presume to standB
Now made the way of the vnworthiest ClownesC
Dig'd and plow'd vp with each vnhallowed handB
If possible thou canst redeeme those placesC
Where by the brim of many a siluer SpringD
The learned Maydens and delightfull GracesC
Often haue sate to heare our Shepheards singD
Where on those Pines the neighb'ring Groues amongE
Now vtterly neglected in these dayesC
Our Garlands Pipes and Cornamutes were hongF
The monuments of our deserued praiseC
So may thy Sheepe like so thy Lambes increaseC
And from the Wolfe feede euer safe and freeG
So maist thou thriue among the learned preaseC
As thou young Shepheard art belou'd of meeG
