Singe wee the RoseA
Then which no flower there growesA
Is sweeterB
And aptly her compareC
With what in that is rareC
A parallel none meeterC
-
Or made posesA
Of this that inclosesA
Suche blissesA
That naturally flushethD
As she blushethD
When she is robd of kissesA
-
Or if strew'dE
When with the morning dew'dE
Or stillingF
Or howe to sense expos'dE
All which in her inclos'dE
Ech place with sweetnes fillingF
-
That most renown'dE
By Nature richly crowndE
With yellowG
Of that delitious layreC
And as pure her hayreC
Vnto the same the felloweH
-
Fearing of harmeI
Nature that flower doth armeI
From dangerC
The touch giues her offenceA
But with reuerenceA
Vnto her selfe a strangerC
-
That redde or whiteE
Or mixt the sence delyteE
BehouldingF
In her complexionJ
All which perfectionJ
Such harmony infouldingeK
-
That deuydedE
Ere it was descidedE
Which most pureC
Began the greeuous warC
Of York and LancasterC
That did many yeeres indureC
-
Conflicts as greateE
As were in all that heateE
I sustaineJ
By her as many hartsA
As men on either partsA
That with her eies hath slaineJ
-
The Primrose flowerC
The first of Flora's bowerC
Is placedE
Soo is shee first as bestE
Though excellent the restE
All gracing by none gracedE
