This while we are abroadA
Shall we not touch our LyreB
Shall we not sing an ODEC
Shall that holy FireD
In vs that strongly glow'dC
In this cold Ayre expireB
-
Long since the Summer laydC
Her lustie Brau'rie downeE
The Autumne halfe is way'dC
And BOREAS 'gins to frowneE
Since now I did beholdC
Great BRVTES first builded TowneE
-
Though in the vtmost PeakeF
A while we doe remaineE
Amongst the Mountaines bleakeF
Expos'd to Sleet and RaineE
No Sport our Houres shall breakeF
To exercise our VaineE
-
What though bright PHOEBVS BeamesG
Refresh the Southerne GroundC
And though the Princely ThamesG
With beautious Nymphs aboundC
And by old Camber's StreamesG
Be many Wonders foundC
-
Yet many Riuers cleareB
Here glide in Siluer SwathesG
And what of all most deareB
Buckston's delicious BathesG
Strong Ale and Noble CheareB
T' asswage breeme Winters scathesG
-
Those grim and horrid CauesG
Whose Lookes affright the dayC
Wherein nice Nature sauesG
What she would not bewrayB
Our better leasure crauesG
And doth inuite our LayC
-
In places farre or neereB
Or famous or obscureB
Where wholesome is the AyreB
Or where the most impureB
All times and euery whereB
The Muse is still in vreB
