I was dead then aliveA
Weeping then laughingB
-
The power of love came into meC
and I became fierce like a lionD
then tender like the evening starE
-
He said You re not mad enoughF
You don t belong in this houseG
-
I went wild and had to be tied upH
He said Still not wild enoughF
to stay with usI
-
I broke through another layerJ
into joyfulnessI
-
He said Its not enoughF
I diedK
-
He said You are a clever little manL
full of fantasy and doubtingB
-
I plucked out my feathers and became a foolM
He said Now you are the candleN
for this assemblyC
-
But I m no candle LookO
I m scattered smokeP
-
He said You are the Sheikh the guideK
But I m not a teacher I have no powerJ
-
He said You already have wingsI
I cannot give you wingsI
-
But I wanted his wingsI
I felt like some flightless chickenD
-
Then new events said to meC
Don t move A sublime generosity isI
coming towards youQ
-
And old love said Stay with meC
-
I said I willR
-
You are the fountain of the sun s lightS
I am a willow shadow on the groundT
You make my raggedness silkyC
-
The soul at dawn is like darkened waterJ
that slowly begins to say Thank you thank youQ
-
Then at sunset again Venus graduallyC
Changes into the moon and then the whole nightskyC
-
This comes of smiling backC
at your smileU
-
The chess master says nothingC
other than moving the silent chess pieceI
-
That I am part of the ploysI
of this game makes meC
amazingly happyC
