Laila And The Khalifa. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCD EFGDHI JKALKMK

The Khalifa said to Laila Art thou really sheA
For whom Majnun lost his head and went distractedB
Thou art not fairer than many other fair onesC
She replied Be silent thou art not MajnunD
-
-
If thou hadst Majnun's eyesE
The two worlds would be within thy viewF
Thou art in thy senses but Majnun is beside himselfG
In love to be wide awake is treasonD
The more a man is awake the more he sleeps to loveH
His critical wakefulness is worse than slumberingI
-
-
Our wakefulness fetters our spiritsJ
Then our souls are a prey to divers whimsK
Thoughts of loss and gain and fears of miseryA
They retain not purity nor dignity nor lustreL
Nor aspiration to soar heavenwardsK
That one is really sleeping who hankers after each whimM
And holds parley with each fancyK
