Written In Emerson's Essays Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBACDECFEGHHE

'O monstrous dead unprofitable worldA
That thou canst hear and hearing hold thy wayB
A voice oracular hath peal'd to dayB
To day a hero's banner is unfurl'dA
Hast thou no lip for welcome ' So I saidC
Man after man the world smil'd and pass'd byD
A smile of wistful incredulityE
As though one spike of noise unto the deadC
Scornful and strange and sorrowful and fullF
Of bitter knowledge Yet the Will is freeE
Strong is the Soul and wise and beautifulG
The seeds of godlike power are in us stillH
Gods are we Bards Saints Heroes if we willH
Dumb judges answer truth or mockeryE
