Written In Butler's Sermons Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBACDDCECEFFC

Affections Instincts Principles and PowersA
Impulse and Reason Freedom and ControlB
So men unravelling God's harmonious wholeB
Rend in a thousand shreds this life of oursA
Vain labour Deep and broad where none may seeC
Spring the foundations of the shadowy throneD
Where man's one Nature queen like sits aloneD
Centred in a majestic unityC
And rays her powers like sister islands seenE
Linking their coral arms under the seaC
Or cluster'd peaks with plunging gulfs betweenE
Spann'd by a rial arches all of goldF
Whereo'er the chariot wheels of Life are roll'dF
In cloudy circles to eternityC
