The River Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAC DEDE FCFC GFGH IJIJ

Still glides the stream slow drops the boatA
Under the rustling poplars' shadeB
Silent the swans beside us floatA
None speaks none heeds ah turn thy headC
-
Let those arch eyes now softly shineD
That mocking mouth grow sweetly blandE
Ah let them rest those eyes on mineD
On mine let rest that lovely handE
-
My pent up tears oppress my brainF
My heart is swoln with love unsaidC
Ah let me weep and tell my painF
And on thy shoulder rest my headC
-
Before I die before the soulG
Which now is mine must re attainF
Immunity from my controlG
And wander round the world againH
-
Before this teas'd o'erlabour'd heartI
For ever leaves its vain employJ
Dead to its deep habitual smartI
And dead to hopes of future joyJ
