And 'Thirteen hundred years agone ' they sayB
'Two saints met often where those waters flowA

'Eastward the other from the dying dayB
'And he with unsunn'd face did always go '-

The Se r from the East was then in lightD
The Se r from the West was then in shadeE

Ah now 'tis changed In conquering sunshine brightD
The man of the bold West now comes array'dE
He of the mystic East is touch'd with nightD
