Unwelcome Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF ABAB

WE were young we were merry we were very very wiseA
And the door stood open at our feastB
When there passed us a woman with the West in her eyesA
And a man with his back to the EastB
-
O still grew the hearts that were beating so fastC
The loudest voice was stillD
The jest died away on our lips as thy passedC
And the rays of July struck chillD
-
The cups of red wine turned pale on the boardE
The white bread black as sootF
The hound forgot the hand of her lordE
She fell down at his footF
-
Low let me lie where the dead dog liesA
Ere I sit me down again at a feastB
When there passes a woman with the West in her eyesA
And a man with his back to the EastB
