UNFADING branch of verdant hueA
In modest sweetness drestB
Shake off thy pearly tears of dewB
And decorate my breastB
-
Dear emblem of the constant mindB
Truth's consecrated treeC
Still shall thy trembling blossoms findB
A faithful friend in meC
-
Nor chilling breeze nor drizzling rainD
Thy glossy leaves can spoilE
Their sober beauties fresh remainD
In every varying soilE
-
If e'er this aching heart of mineF
A wand'ring thought should proveG
O let thy branches round it twineF
And bind it fast to LoveH
-
For ah the little fluttering thingI
Amidst LIFE'S tempest rudeB
Has felt Affliction's sharpest stingI
YET TRIUMPHS UNSUBDUEDB
-
Like THEE it braves the wintry windB
And mocks the storm's fierce pow'rJ
Tho' from its HOPES the blast unkindB
Has torn each promis'd flow'rJ
-
Tho' round its fibres barb'rous fateB
Has twin'd an icy spellK
Still in its central fires elateB
The purest passions dwellK
-
When LIFE'S disast'rous scene is fledB
This humble boon I craveL
Oh bind your branches round my headB
AND BLOSSOM ON MY GRAVEL
