To Simplicity Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCBCDEDE FGFGAHAH FIFIDADA FJFJBABA AKAKLMLM

Inscribed to Lady DuncannonA
-
-
SWEET blushing Nymph who loves to dwellB
In the dark forest's silent gloomC
Who smiles within the Hermit's cellB
And sighs upon the rustic's tombC
Who pitying sees the busy throngD
The slaves of fashion's giddy swayE
Who in a wild and artless songD
Warbles the feath'ry hours awayE
-
Oft have I flown thy steps to traceF
In the low valley's still retreatG
Oft have I view'd thy blooming faceF
In the small cottage proudly neatG
I've seen thee veil'd in vestal lawnA
In the cold cloyster's hallow'd shadeH
I've seen thee at the peep of dawnA
In simple russet garb array'dH
-
I've seen thee crowned with APRIL flow'rsF
Light bounding o'er the rural meadI
I've heard thee in sequester'd bow'rsF
Sing to the SHEPHERD'S past'ral reedI
When pleasure led the nymphs alongD
In moonlight gambols o'er the greenA
I've mark'd THEE fairest of the throngD
With modest eye and timid mienA
-
No more my eager gaze shall traceF
Thy varying footsteps blithe and freeJ
For what art thou but native graceF
Soft Beauty's child SIMPLICITYJ
'Tis thine in every path to dwellB
Where TRUTH and INNOCENCE are seenA
In cottage low or Hermit's cellB
Or splendid dome or rural greenA
-
The spotless MIND the brow sereneA
'Tis THINE enchanting Maid to boastK
The sweet benignant humble mienA
And all that VIRTUE values mostK
Thy blushes paint DUNCANNONS's cheekL
Thy light hand weaves her golden hairM
Around her form THY charms I'll seekL
FOR ALL THE GRACES REVEL THEREM
