Nor worth nor pow'r thy wings can bind | C |
All earthly pleasures fly with THEE | D |
Inconstant as the wav'ring wind | C |
That plays upon the summer sea | D |

I court thee not ungentle guest | E |
For I have e'er been doom'd to find | C |
Life's gayest hours but idly drest | C |
With sweets that pall the sick'ning mind | C |
When smiling HOPE with placid mien | F |
Around my couch did fondly play | B |
Too oft thy a ry form I've seen | F |
On DOWNY pinions glide away | B |
- | |
But when perplex'd with pain or care | G |
My couch with THORNS was scatter'd round | C |
When the pale priestess of DESPAIR | G |
My mind in fatal spells had bound | C |
When the dull hours no joy could bring | H |
No bliss my weary fancy prove | I |
I mark'd thy leaden pond'rous wing | H |

- | |
IF SUCH THY GIFTS O Time for thee | D |
My sated heart shall ne'er repine | F |
I bow content to FATE'S decree | D |
And with thy thorns thy roses twine | F |
Yet e'er thy fickle reign shall end | C |
The balmy sweets of FRIENDSHIP'S hour | J |
I'll with my cup of sorrow blend | C |
And smile REGARDLESS OF THY POW'R | K |
