Stanzas To The Rose Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDD EFEFGG HIHICA JHJHGG CKAKLL

SWEET PICTURE of Life's chequer'd hourA
Ah wherefore droop thy blushing headB
Tell me oh tell me hap'less flow'rC
Is it because thy charms are fledB
Come gentle ROSE and learn from meD
A lesson of PhilosophyD
-
Thy scented buds LIFE'S joys discloseE
They strew our paths with magic sweetsF
Where many a thorn like thine fair ROSEE
Full oft the weary wand'rer meetsF
And when he sees thy charms departG
He feels thy thorn within his heartG
-
When Morn's bright torch illum'd the skyH
Vainly thy flaunting buds display'dI
Enamell'd leaves of crimson dieH
Ill fated blossoms doom'd to fadeI
So 'tis with BEAUTY hapless flow'rC
Its lustre blooms but for an hourA
-
Come blushing ROSE and on my breastJ
Recline thy gentle head and dieH
Thy scatter'd leaves shall there be press'dJ
Bath'd with a tear from PITY'S eyeH
There shall thy balmy sweets impartG
An essence grateful to my heartG
-
Thus SYMPATHY with lenient pow'rC
Shall bid thy fading charms bestowK
Soft odours for life's happy hourA
Kind healing balsam for its woeK
If such thy virtues ROSE DIVINEL
OH MAY THY ENVIED FATE BE MINEL
