Stanzas Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: AABBCDCDAA EEBBFGFGAA AAAAHIHJAAWHEN fragrant gales and summer show'rs | A |
Call'd forth the sweetly scented flow'rs | A |
When ripen'd sheaves of golden grain | B |
Strew'd their rich treasures o'er the plain | B |
When the full grape did nectar yield | C |
In tepid drops of purple hue | D |
When the thick grove and thirsty field | C |
Drank the soft show'r and bloom'd a new | D |
O then my joyful heart did say | A |
Sure this is Nature's Holy day | A |
- | |
But when the yellow leaf did fade | E |
And every gentle flow'r decay'd | E |
When whistling winds and drenching rain | B |
Swept with rude force the naked plain | B |
When o'er the desolated scene | F |
I saw the drifted snow descend | G |
And sadness darken'd all the green | F |
And Nature's triumphs seem'd to end | G |
O then my mourning heart did say | A |
Thus Youth shall vanish Life decay | A |
- | |
When Beauty blooms and Fortune smiles | A |
And wealth the easy breast beguiles | A |
When pleasure from her downy wings | A |
Her soft bewitching incense flings | A |
THEN Friends look kind and round the heart | H |
The brightest flames of passion move | I |
False Flatt'ry's soothing strains impart | H |
The warmest Friendship fondest Love | J |
But when capricious FORTUNE flies | A |
Then FRIENDSHIP fades and PASSION dies | A |
