Sonnet Xxviii: Weak Is The Sophistry Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBACDCECE

Weak is the sophistry and vain the artA
That whispers patience to the mind's despairB
That bids reflection bathe the wounds of careB
While Hope with pleasing phantoms soothes their smartA
For mem'ry still reluctant to departA
From the dear spot once rich in prospects fairB
Bids the fond soul enamour'd thereB
And its least charm is grateful to the heartA
He never lov'd who could not muse and sighC
Spangling the sacred turf with frequent tearsD
Where the small rivulet that ripples byC
Recalls the scenes of past and happier yearsE
When on its banks he watch'd the speaking eyeC
And one sweet smile o'erpaid an age of fearsE
