Sonnet Xxiv: O Thou! Meek Orb Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBACDCDED

O thou meek Orb that stealing o'er the daleA
Cheer'st with thy modest beams the noon of nightB
On the smooth lake diffusing silv'ry lightB
Sublimely still and beautifully paleA
What can thy cool and placid eye availA
Where fierce despair absorbs the mental sightB
While inbred glooms the vagrant thoughts inviteB
To tempt the gulph where howling fiends assailA
O Night all nature owns thy temper'd pow'rC
Thy solemn pause thy dews thy pensive beamD
Thy sweet breath whisp'ring in the moonlight bow'rC
While fainting flow'rets kiss the wand'ring streamD
Yet vain is ev'ry charm and vain the hourE
That brings to madd'ning love no soothing dreamD
