Sonnet Xvi: Delusive Hope Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBACDCDCD

Delusive Hope more transient than the rayA
That leads pale twilight to her dusky bedB
O'er woodland glen or breezy mountain's headB
Ling'ring to catch the parting sigh of dayA
Hence with thy visionary charms awayA
Nor o'er my path the flow'rs of fancy spreadB
Thy airy dreams on peaceful pillows shedB
And weave for thoughtless brows a garland gayA
Farewell low vallies dizzy cliffs farewellC
Small vagrant rills that murmur as ye flowD
Dark bosom'd labyrinth and thorny dellC
The task be mine all pleasures to foregoD
To hide where meditation loves to dwellC
And feed my soul with luxury of woeD
