Sonnet -- The Peasant Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCA DEED FAAFGG

WIDE o'er the barren plain the bleak wind fliesA
Sweeps the high mountain's top and with its breathB
Swells the curl'd river o'er the plain beneathC
Where many a clay built hut in ruin liesA
-
The hardy PEASANT in his little cotD
Lights his small fire his homely meal preparesE
No pamper'd luxury no splendid caresE
Invade the comforts of his humble lotD
-
Born to endure he labours thro' the dayF
And when the midnight storm o'er spreads the skiesA
On a clean pallet peacefully he liesA
And sweetly sleeps the lonely hours awayF
Till at the peep of dawn he wakes to findG
HEALTH in his veins and RAPTURE IN HIS MINDG
