Lines Written On The Sea-coast Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEG HIHJKLKL MNMN LOLO PQPQKRKSTT

SWIFT o'er the bounding deep the VESSEL glidesA
Its streamers flutt'ring in the summer galesB
The lofty mast the breezy air deridesA
As gaily o'er the glitt'ring surf she sailsB
-
Now beats each gallant heart with innate joysC
Bright hopes and tender fears alternate vieD
Dear schemes of pure delight the mind employsC
And the soul glistens in the tearful eyeD
-
The fond expecting Maid delighted standsE
On the bleak summit of yon chalky bournF
With waving handkerchief and lifted handsE
She hails her darling Sailor's safe returnG
-
Ill fated Maid ne'er shall thy gentle breastH
The chaste reward of constant passion proveI
Ne'er shall that timid form again be press'dH
In the dear bondage of unsullied loveJ
Stern Heaven forbids the dark o'erwhelming deepK
Mocks the poor pilot's skill and braves his sighsL
O'er the high deck the frothy billows sweepK
And the fierce tempest drowns the sea boy's criesL
-
The madd'ning ocean swells with furious roarM
See the devoted bark the shatter'd mastN
The splitting hulk dash'd on the rocky shoreM
Rolls 'midst the howlings of the direful blastN
-
O'er the vex'd deep the vivid sulphur fliesL
The jarring elements their clamours blendO
The deaf'ning thunder roars along the skiesL
And whistling winds from lurid clouds descendO
-
The lab'ring wreck contending with the waveP
Mounts to the blast or plunges in the mainQ
The trembling wretch suspended o'er his graveP
Clings to the tatter'd shrouds the pouring rainQ
Chills his sad breast methinks I see him weepK
I hear his fearful groan his mutter'd pray'rR
O cease to mourn behold the yawning deepK
Where soon thy weary soul shall mock DespairS
Yes soon thy aching heart shall rest in peaceT
For in the arms of Death all human sorrows ceaseT
