To thee the guardian of my youthful daysA
Fain would I pay some tribute of respectB
And though it falls far short of thy desertC
The will to do thee justice thou'lt acceptD
-
As I recall the days of former yearsE
Thy many acts of kindness bring to mindF
Tears fill my eyes in thee I've ever foundG
A friend most faithful uniformly kindF
-
Thou art the earliest friend of mine that's leftH
The rest have long departed every oneI
They've long years since the debt of nature paidJ
But thou remainest still and thou aloneK
-
The snow of four score winters thou has seenL
And life's long pilgrimage may soon be o'erM
Respected loved and happy hast thou beenN
With ample means to relieve the suffering poorO
Thou ever hadst the will as well as powerM
-
Temperate in habit and of temper evenN
Calm and unruffled as the peaceful lakeP
To thee the satisfaction has been givenI
Much to enjoy and others happy makeP
-
And when thy days on earth shall all be pastQ
And thou before the Saviour's bar appearR
Mayst thou be found clothed in his righteousnessS
And from his lips the joyful sentence hearT
-
Well done thou good and faithful servant thouU
Hast over few things faithful been and nowU
I'll make thee ruler over many thingsV
And place a crown of glory on thy browU
-
Such will be thy reward my friend and mineW
If trusting in Christ's merits not our ownK
We at the last great day in him be foundG
He is the ark of safety He aloneK
