To My Daughter Elizabeth Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCD EFGG HIHJ KLMM NOBBPP Q

Two flowers upon one parent stemA
Together bloomed for many daysB
At length a storm arose and oneC
Was blighted and cut down at noonD
-
The other hath transplanted beenE
And flowers fair as herself hath borneF
She too has felt the withering stormG
Her strength's decayed wasted her formG
-
May he who hears the mourner's prayerH
Renew her strength for years to comeI
Long may He our Lilly spareH
Long delay to call her homeJ
-
But when the summons shall arriveK
To bear this lovely flower awayL
Again may she transplanted beM
To blossom in eternityM
-
There may these sisters meet againN
Both freed from sorrow sin and painO
There with united voices raiseB
In sweet accord their hymns of praiseB
Eternally his name t' adoreP
Who died yet lives forevermoreP
