FOR MANY YEARS DEPRIVED OF SIGHTA
-
-
They say the sun is shiningB
In all his splendor nowC
And clouds in graceful draperyD
Are sailing to an froE
-
That birds of brilliant plumageF
Are soaring on the wingB
Exulting in the daylightA
Rejoicing as they singB
-
They tell me too that rosesG
E'en in my pathway lieH
And decked in rich apparelI
Attract the passers byH
-
They say the sun when settingB
Is glorious to beholdJ
And sheds on all at partingB
A radiant crown of goldJ
-
And then the night's pale empressK
With all her glittering trainL
The vacant throne ascendingB
Resumes her peaceful reignL
-
That she in queenly beautyD
Subdued yet silvery lightA
Makes scarcely less enchantingB
Than day the sober nightA
-
But sights like these so cheeringB
Alas I cannot seeD
The daylight and the darknessM
Are both alike to meD
-
Yet there's a world above usM
So beautiful and fairN
That nothing here can equalI
And nought with it compareN
-
There in a blaze of gloryD
Amidst a countless throngO
The Saviour smiles complacentP
While listening to their songO
-
Ten thousand times ten thousandQ
Their cheerful voices raiseR
While golden harps in harmonyD
Are tuned to sound the praiseR
-
Of Him the blest delivererS
Who conquered when he fellT
The man of many sorrowsU
The Great ImmanuelV
-
But stop I dare not ventureS
Too far on holy groundW
Its heights are too exaltedX
Its depths are too profoundW
-
Yet may I be permittedY
When this brief life is pastZ
The hope in yon bright heavenA2
To find my home at lastZ
-
When cleansed from all pollutionA2
From sin and sorrow freeD
I with unclouded visionA2
My Saviour God may seeD
-
Brooklyn MayB2
