His mission soon accomplishedA
His race on earth soon runB
He passed to realms of gloryC
Above the rising sunB
-
So beautiful that infantD
When in death's arms he layE
It seemed like peaceful slumberF
That morn might chase awayE
-
But morning light was powerlessG
Those eyelids to uncloseG
And sunshine saw and left himH
In undisturbed reposeG
-
The light of those blue orbsG
That drank the sunbeams inI
Now yields to night and darknessG
Holds undisputed reignJ
-
That little form so gracefulK
The light brown chestnut hairL
Those half formed words when utteredM
That face so sweet and fairL
-
All all his ways so winningN
Were impotent to saveO
His life when called to yield itP
By Him that life who gaveO
-
So soon his voyage endedQ
The passage home so shortR
Before he knew of evilK
He entered safe the portR
-
Since thee my child I sawG
Long years have passed awayE
Thy mother's hair then brownS
Now's intermixed with grayE
-
Another link's been brokenB
By death's relentless handT
A daughter has been takenB
The eldest of the bandT
-
Thy little lamp of lifeU
Was put out in a dayE
But hers was years expiringN
By slow yet sure decayE
-
But one short year of lifeU
Was all allotted theeC
But she thy eldest sisterF
Was many years spared meC
-
And though long since we partedQ
On earth to meet no moreV
I'd think of thee as childrenB
Not lost but gone beforeV
-
