Hymn, Sung At The Ordination Of The Rev. Henry Allen. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHIH BJEJ KLML NOPQ R

We meet to day as ne'er beforeA
To greet a pastor of our choiceB
Without a single jarring noteC
And without one dissenting voiceB
-
Oh thou who art enthroned on highD
Before whom holy angels bowE
Be pleased to hear us when we singF
Accept the praises offered nowE
-
Let no one present dare to giveG
The service of the lip aloneH
Or think if they the heart withholdI
'Twill find acceptance at thy throneH
-
But with united heart and voiceB
A grateful tribute we would raiseJ
Oh bless us all assembled nowE
Help us to pray and help to praiseJ
-
Thou great Immanuel who didst leadK
Thy Israel all the desert throughL
Like them we're weak and helpless quiteM
Oh condescend to lead us tooL
-
And when our Shepherd with his flockN
Before thy throne shall re appearO
May every one acceptance findP
And ceaseless praises offer thereQ
