Escape Of The Israelites, And Destruction Of Pharaoh Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDEFFGHIIJJKALL MMAANNHHOOPP Q

Ah short sighted monarch dost thou think to pursueA
The Israel of God and recapture them tooA
Hast thou so soon forgotten the plagues on thee sentB
Or so hardened thy heart that thou can'st not relentB
Then make ready thy chariots a long way they'll reachC
Thou hast six hundred chosen a captain to eachC
Now after them hasten no time's to be lostD
That God worketh for them thou'st felt to thy costE
Speed thee then speed thee thou'lt soon them o'ertakeF
Thou hast so overtasked them they're powerless and weakF
Ah weak and defenceless they truly appearG
But the Lord is their rock they're his special careH
See that pillar that's leading them all on their wayI
It's a bright cloud by night and a dark cloud by dayI
And now by the Red Sea behold they encampJ
But hark what's that sound it's the war horse's trampJ
Look up see thy enemy close by thee nowK
The sea lies before thee ah what canst thou doA
Moses bids them go forward at God's commandL
When the waters divide and they walk on dry landL
And the cloud that to Egypt is darkness all nightM
To the children of Israel is a bright shining lightM
And now have the Hebrews all safely passed throughA
The Red Sea which Pharaoh assaying to doA
Is destroyed with his host every one of them drownedN
Not a man saved alive not a single man foundN
To return to lone Egypt the sad news to bearH
To the widows and orphans made desolate thereH
But list hear the rescued their glad voices raiseO
And to timbrel and dance add the sweet song of praiseO
For Pharaoh hath perished beneath the dark seaP
And the long enslaved Hebrews are happy and freeP
