An Acrostic Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCDEFGF HHIIIJJ KKLLMM

Cannot happiness perfect be found on this earthA
How absurd to expect it sin comes with our birthA
As soon from spring bitter sweet water procureB
Rich clusters of grapes from the thornC
Look for figs upon thistles when seeking for foodD
Or bread from the cold flinty stoneE
The wealth of the Indies true peace can't bestowF
The Crown Royal oft presses an aching browG
E'en in laughter there's madness mirth coupled with woeF
-
As true peace in this world then can never be foundH
Until deep in the heart Christian graces aboundH
Give diligent heed to the keeping thy heartI
Unwearied in effort repel every dartI
So dextrously pointed by Satan's black artI
True peace is from Heaven a child of the skiesJ
And feeble exertions secure not the prizeJ
-
Never falter in duty but trust in that powerK
Engaged to support you in each trying hourK
When sinking like Peter amidst the dark waveL
Ever look unto Jesus almighty to saveL
Look to him live like him be strong in his mightM
Lay thy burden on him and thy cross he'll make lightM
