Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DAEA FGFG HIDI DDCD FJDK LADA MNFO PFFF

I stood in the mossy gatewayA
And thought of years gone byB
Then tapped on latticed windowsC
Heard naught only my sighB
-
The house was cold and emptyD
A stranger's home they sayA
The voices hushed of dear onesE
Loved footprints passed awayA
-
In fancy then I peopledF
The place with moving lifeG
The halls again resoundedF
With laughter song and fifeG
-
In father's arms I nestleH
Caressing soft dark hairI
I beg for one more storyD
Or breathe my childhood's prayerI
-
My heart cries out when fancyD
Brings mother back to meD
Her loving care o'er shadowsC
The past sweet memoryD
-
The house now grows resplendentF
With joys of former sceneJ
My brothers loved so dearlyD
And life a happy dreamK
-
Our uncle kind and tenderL
The cousins buoyant gayA
My playmates calling for meD
To school we his awayA
-
Awakened from my dreamingM
Time speaks of saddened yearsN
Two score more and voices hushedF
Flow now ye pent up tearsO
-
Oh voices hushed where art thouP
A stranger lone I standF
Good bye good bye old homesteadF
Farewell sweet mystic bandF
