Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDDEF CGCGCCHC IJHHKHDH AHLHCMAM NOCPHQEQ ERAHCSCS AHAHCTATThe home of my soul worn and weary | A |
And pierced by the rocks of old time | B |
The windows grown dim and the key boards | C |
Were mute to the wind's whispered chime | B |
The pillars were trembling the pitcher | D |
Was full to the brim running o'er | D |
With burdens hurled oft' at the fountain | E |
And closed were the gates evermore | F |
- | |
Old castle of hopes and of tempests | C |
I bid thee a loving adieu | G |
Thou sheltered me oft' from the cloud bursts | C |
The winds blowing fiercely on you | G |
My soul now arises on pinions | C |
And wings through terrestial space | C |
By planets all gleaming with starlight | H |
I stand with my Lord face to face | C |
- | |
O Master I cry the old temple | I |
Thou gavest on earth passed away | J |
I come to thee houseless unsheltered | H |
Hast room in Thy mansion to day | H |
I left Mother Earth in the night watch | K |
And travelled alone to thy gate | H |
Hast mercy for me dearest Master | D |
Do I plead for thy pardon too late | H |
- | |
Dear Master sore trials beset me | A |
My feet slipping oft' by the way | H |
Temptations and doubt overwhelming | L |
From Thee led me often astray | H |
My cross was oft' covered with roses | C |
Just hiding the sly cruel thorn | M |
My homestead built out of dust only | A |
Has crumbled to day I am born | M |
- | |
Just born in the light of thy kingdom | N |
Hast house in thy domain to give | O |
A homestead to fill with the loved ones | C |
Where with Thee in peace we may live | P |
I know that my spirit is earth stained | H |
I'd wash it in yon flowing stream | Q |
I've come oh my Saviour all broken | E |
Are hopes to be only a dream | Q |
- | |
He turned with a look of compassion | E |
His voice as sweet waters and low | R |
My child I've a palace built for thee | A |
Which time nor rude winds can o'erthrow | H |
I've watched thee in all of thy wanderings | C |
E'en when thy homestead of clay fell | S |
I list for thy knock at our portals | C |
Heard thee faintly ask Is all well | S |
- | |
When doubts have assailed I would press thee | A |
In sorrow stood oft' by thy side | H |
I've quelled maddened waves as they dashed thee | A |
Soul ring heaven's bells and abide | H |
Thy footsteps shall fall in soft places | C |
And by mirrored waters can'st roam | T |
Thy kindred thy Father shall greet thee | A |
To peace beauty love welcome home | T |
