The home of my soul worn and wearyA
And pierced by the rocks of old timeB
The windows grown dim and the key boardsC
Were mute to the wind's whispered chimeB
The pillars were trembling the pitcherD
Was full to the brim running o'erD
With burdens hurled oft' at the fountainE
And closed were the gates evermoreF
-
Old castle of hopes and of tempestsC
I bid thee a loving adieuG
Thou sheltered me oft' from the cloud burstsC
The winds blowing fiercely on youG
My soul now arises on pinionsC
And wings through terrestial spaceC
By planets all gleaming with starlightH
I stand with my Lord face to faceC
-
O Master I cry the old templeI
Thou gavest on earth passed awayJ
I come to thee houseless unshelteredH
Hast room in Thy mansion to dayH
I left Mother Earth in the night watchK
And travelled alone to thy gateH
Hast mercy for me dearest MasterD
Do I plead for thy pardon too lateH
-
Dear Master sore trials beset meA
My feet slipping oft' by the wayH
Temptations and doubt overwhelmingL
From Thee led me often astrayH
My cross was oft' covered with rosesC
Just hiding the sly cruel thornM
My homestead built out of dust onlyA
Has crumbled to day I am bornM
-
Just born in the light of thy kingdomN
Hast house in thy domain to giveO
A homestead to fill with the loved onesC
Where with Thee in peace we may liveP
I know that my spirit is earth stainedH
I'd wash it in yon flowing streamQ
I've come oh my Saviour all brokenE
Are hopes to be only a dreamQ
-
He turned with a look of compassionE
His voice as sweet waters and lowR
My child I've a palace built for theeA
Which time nor rude winds can o'erthrowH
I've watched thee in all of thy wanderingsC
E'en when thy homestead of clay fellS
I list for thy knock at our portalsC
Heard thee faintly ask Is all wellS
-
When doubts have assailed I would press theeA
In sorrow stood oft' by thy sideH
I've quelled maddened waves as they dashed theeA
Soul ring heaven's bells and abideH
Thy footsteps shall fall in soft placesC
And by mirrored waters can'st roamT
Thy kindred thy Father shall greet theeA
To peace beauty love welcome homeT
