To My Daughter: Lines Received From My Mother Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB ACAD EFEF GHGH IJIJ KLKM

My child the cold dews of evening are 'round theeA
Bereft of thy sightB
And dark lines of sorrow and trials surround theeA
By day and by nightB
-
To day I am sitting so dreary and lonelyA
Heart sick and in painC
And wishing 'twere Heaven's will I could onlyA
Once see thee againD
-
If so I could bear all the pain and the sorrowE
Of life and its caresF
And not fill the hours of the coming to morrowE
With sighs and with tearsF
-
Like you many hopes of the future I cherishedG
When free from life's careH
Just so all my brightest fond visions have perishedG
Like mists in the airH
-
I still hope that God in His merciful kindnessI
Thy sight will restoreJ
And permit thee when perfectly healed of thy blindnessI
To see us once moreJ
-
But restore thee or not one hope I will cherishK
At home and abroadL
That I may submit to my fate though I perishK
And trust in my GodM
