Rhyme Scheme: A BCDEBEFGGHIHJAAKJKLM NOLOPQQRPR

JULYA
-
From pompous life's dull masqueradeB
From Pride's pursuits and Passion's warC
Far my Cordelia very farD
To thee and me may Heaven assignE
The silent pleasures of the shadeB
The joys of peace unenvied though divineE
Safe in the calm embowering groveF
As thy own lovely brow sereneG
Behold the world's fantastic sceneG
What low pursuits employ the greatH
What tinsel things their wishes moveI
The forms of Fashion and the toys of StateH
In vain are all Contentment's charmsJ
Her placid mien her cheerful eyeA
For look Cordelia how they flyA
Allur'd by Power Applause or GainK
They fly her kind protecting armsJ
Ah blind to pleasure and in love with painK
Turn and indulge a fairer viewL
Smile on the joys which here conspireM
O joys harmonious as my lyreN
O prospect of enchanting thingsO
As ever slumbering poet knewL
When Love and Fancy wrapt him in their wingsO
Here no rude storm of Passion blowsP
But Sports and Smiles and Virtues playQ
Cheer'd by Affection's purest rayQ
The air still breathes Contentment's balmR
And the clear stream of Pleasure flowsP
For ever active yet for ever calmR
