Ode Ix(ii); At Study Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCCBDDEFFE GGHIIHJJFKKLMENOON

Whither did my fancy strayA
By what magic drawn awayA
Have I left my studious themeB
From this philosophic pageC
From the problems of the sageC
Wandering thro' a pleasing dreamB
'Tis in vain alas I findD
Much in vain my zealous mindD
Would to learned wisdom's throneE
Dedicate each thoughtful hourF
Nature bids a softer powerF
Claim some minutes for his ownE
-
Let the busy or the wiseG
View him with contemptuous eyesG
Love is native to the heartH
Guide its wishes as you willI
Without Love you'll find it stillI
Void in one essential partH
Me though no peculiar fairJ
Touches with a lover's careJ
Though the pride of my desireF
Asks immortal friendship's nameK
Asks the palm of honest fameK
And the old heroic lyreL
Though the day have smoothly goneM
Or to letter'd leisure knownE
Or in social duty spentN
Yet at eve my lonely breastO
Seeks in vain for perfect restO
Languishes for true contentN
