Approach in silence 'tis no vulgar taleA
Which I the Dryad of this hoary oakB
Pronounce to mortal ears The second ageC
Now hasteneth to its period since i roseD
On this fair lawn The groves of yonder valeA
Are all my offspring and each Nymph who guardsE
The copses and the furrow'd fields beyondF
Obeys me Many changes have i seenG
In human things and many awful deedsH
Of justice when the ruling hand of JoveI
Against the tyrants of the land againstJ
The unhallow'd sons of luxury and guileK
Was arm'd for retribution Thus at lengthL
Expert in laws divine i know the pathsM
Of wisdom and erroneous folly's endN
Have oft presag'd and now well pleas'd i waitO
Each evening till a noble youth who lovesP
My shade awhile releas'd from public caresQ
Yon peaceful gate shall enter and sit downR
Beneath my branches Then his musing mindS
I prompt unseen and place before his viewI
Sincerest forms of good and move his heartT
With the dread bounties of the sire supremeU
Of gods and men with freedom's generous deedsH
The lofty voice of glory and the faithV
Of sacred friendship Stranger i have toldW
My function If within thy bosom dwellX
Aught which may challenge praise thou wilt not leaveI
Unhonor'd my abode nor shall i hearY
A sparing benediction from thy tongueZ
