Amoret Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC DEDEFF GHGHII JKJKLL

If rightly tuneful bards decideA
If it be fix'd in Love's decreesB
That Beauty ought not to be triedA
But by its native power to pleaseB
Then tell me youths and lovers tellC
What fair can Amoret excelC
-
Behold that bright unsullied smileD
And wisdom speaking in her mienE
Yet she so artless all the whileD
So little studious to be seenE
We naught but instant gladness knowF
Nor think to whom the gift we oweF
-
But neither music nor the powersG
Of youth and mirth and frolic cheerH
Add half the sunshine to the hoursG
Or make life's prospect half so clearH
As memory brings it to the eyeI
From scenes where Amoret was byI
-
This sure is Beauty's happiest partJ
This gives the most unbounded swayK
This shall enchant the subject heartJ
When rose and lily fade awayK
And she be still in spite of TimeL
Sweet Amoret in all her primeL
