The rosy clouds float overheadA
The sun is going downB
And now the sandman's gentle treadA
Comes stealing through the townB
-
White sand white sand he softly criesC
And as he shakes his handD
Straightway there lies on babies' eyesC
His gift of shining sandD
Blue eyes gray eyes black eyes and brownB
As shuts the rose they softly close when heE
goes through the townB
-
From sunny beaches far awayF
Yes in another landD
He gathers up at break of dayF
His store of shining sandD
No tempests beat that shore remoteG
No ships may sail that wayF
His little boat alone may floatG
Within that lovely bayF
Blue eyes gray eyes black eyes and brownB
As shuts the rose they softly close when heE
goes through the townB
-
He smiles to see the eyelids closeH
Above the happy eyesC
And every child right well he knowsI
Oh he is very wiseC
But if as he goes through the landD
A naughty baby criesC
His other hand takes dull gray sandD
To close the wakeful eyesC
Blue eyes gray eyes black eyes and brownB
As shuts the rose they softly close when heE
goes through the townB
-
So when you hear the sandman's songJ
Sound through the twilight sweetK
Be sure you do not keep him longJ
A waiting on the streetK
Lie softly down dear little headA
Rest quiet busy handsL
Till by your bed his good night saidA
He strews the shining sandsL
Blue eyes gray eyes black eyes and brownB
As shuts the rose they softly close when heE
goes through the townB
