Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCDBEB FDFDGFGFBEB HCICDCDCBEB JKJKALALBEBThe rosy clouds float overhead | A |
The sun is going down | B |
And now the sandman's gentle tread | A |
Comes stealing through the town | B |
- | |
White sand white sand he softly cries | C |
And as he shakes his hand | D |
Straightway there lies on babies' eyes | C |
His gift of shining sand | D |
Blue eyes gray eyes black eyes and brown | B |
As shuts the rose they softly close when he | E |
goes through the town | B |
- | |
From sunny beaches far away | F |
Yes in another land | D |
He gathers up at break of day | F |
His store of shining sand | D |
No tempests beat that shore remote | G |
No ships may sail that way | F |
His little boat alone may float | G |
Within that lovely bay | F |
Blue eyes gray eyes black eyes and brown | B |
As shuts the rose they softly close when he | E |
goes through the town | B |
- | |
He smiles to see the eyelids close | H |
Above the happy eyes | C |
And every child right well he knows | I |
Oh he is very wise | C |
But if as he goes through the land | D |
A naughty baby cries | C |
His other hand takes dull gray sand | D |
To close the wakeful eyes | C |
Blue eyes gray eyes black eyes and brown | B |
As shuts the rose they softly close when he | E |
goes through the town | B |
- | |
So when you hear the sandman's song | J |
Sound through the twilight sweet | K |
Be sure you do not keep him long | J |
A waiting on the street | K |
Lie softly down dear little head | A |
Rest quiet busy hands | L |
Till by your bed his good night said | A |
He strews the shining sands | L |
Blue eyes gray eyes black eyes and brown | B |
As shuts the rose they softly close when he | E |
goes through the town | B |
