The Ape Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBBBCCBBCDBCD

Here is a tale for maidens and for mothersA
There was an ape a very prince of monkeysB
Who capered in the world of fools and flunkiesB
The envy of his set and of all othersB
He was the handbook of all social mannersB
The beau of beaux and simian glass of fashionC
To whom all folly functioned played at passionC
And matrimony waved beleaguering bannersB
A girl of girls one God had given gracesB
And beauty more than oft He grants to humanC
Captured the creature and they were unitedD
And strange to say she loved him Saw no tracesB
Of ape in him And like a very womanC
Reformed her countenance and was delightedD
