Love's Calendar Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABBCBC ABABBCBC ABABBCBC BCBC

The spring may come in her pomp and splendorA
And Summer follow with rain and roseB
Or Fall lead in that old offenderA
Winter close huddled up in snowsB
Ever a South the Love wind blowsB
Into the heart like a vane a swayC
From face to face of the girls it knowsB
But which is the fairest it 's hard to sayC
-
If Lydia smile or Maud look tenderA
Straight in your bosom the gladness glowsB
But scarce at her side are you all surrenderA
When Gertrude sings where the garden growsB
And your heart is a bloom mid the blossoming rowsB
For her hand to gather and toss awayC
Or wear on her breast as her fancy goesB
But which is the fairest it 's hard to sayC
-
Let Helen pass as a sapling slenderA
Her cheek a berry her mouth a roseB
Or Blanche or Laura to each you renderA
The worship due to the charms she showsB
But Ruth's a poem when these are proseB
Low at her feet your life you layC
All of devotion to her it owesB
But which is the fairest it 's hard to sayC
-
How can a man of his heart disposeB
When Bess and Clara and Kate and MayC
In form and feature no flaw discloseB
And which is the fairest it 's hard to sayC
