The Kings Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDAD AEFE GCHC FIJI FKLK MMNO APFP FQJQ

A man said unto his AngelA
My spirits are fallen lowB
And I cannot carry this battleA
O brother where might I goB
-
The terrible Kings are on meC
With spears that are deadly brightD
Against me so from the cradleA
Do fate and my fathers fightD
-
Then said to the man his AngelA
Thou wavering witless soulE
Back to the ranks What matterF
To win or to lose the wholeE
-
As judged by the little judgesG
Who hearken not well nor seeC
Not thus by the outer issueH
The Wise shall interpret theeC
-
Thy will is the sovereign measureF
And only events of thingsI
The puniest heart defyingJ
Were stronger than all these KingsI
-
Though out of the past they gatherF
Mind's Doubt and Bodily PainK
And pallid Thirst of the SpiritL
That is kin to the other twainK
-
And Grief in a cloud of bannersM
And ringletted Vain DesiresM
And Vice with the spoils upon himN
Of thee and thy beaten siresO
-
While Kings of eternal evilA
Yet darken the hills aboutP
Thy part is with broken sabreF
To rise on the last redoubtP
-
To fear not sensible failureF
Nor covet the game at allQ
But fighting fighting fightingJ
Die driven against the wallQ
