Brook Farm Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBB CDDC EFFE GHHG IBBI JKKJ

Down the long road bent and brownA
Youth that dearly loves a visionB
Ventures to the gate ElysianB
As a pilgrim from the townB
-
Coming not so late so farC
Rocks and birches for your storyD
Not to prate on vanished gloryD
Where of old was quenched a starC
-
Where of old in lapse of toilE
Time but mocked a prayer patheticF
Where the flower of good propheticF
Starved in our New England soilE
-
Ah to Youth with radiant eyesG
For whom grief is not nor dauntingH
Lost glad voices still are chantingH
Neath those unremaining skiesG
-
Still the dreams of fellowshipI
Beat their wings of aspirationB
And a smile of soft elationB
Trembles from its haughty lipI
-
If another dare derideJ
Hopes heroic snapped and partedK
Disillusion so high heartedK
All success is mean besideJ
