Vespers Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCADEFGHIJKLAMNOPEQ BRS

In your extended absence you permit meA
use of earth anticipatingB
some return on investment I must reportC
failure in my assignment principallyA
regarding the tomato plantsD
I think I should not be encouraged to growE
tomatoes Or if I am you should withholdF
the heavy rains the cold nights that comeG
so often here while other regions getH
twelve weeks of summer All thisI
belongs to you on the other handJ
I planted the seeds I watched the first shootsK
like wings tearing the soil and it was my heartL
broken by the blight the black spot so quicklyA
multiplying in the rows I doubtM
you have a heart in our understanding ofN
that term You who do not discriminateO
between the dead and the living who are in consequenceP
immune to foreshadowing you may not knowE
how much terror we bear the spotted leafQ
the red leaves of the maple fallingB
even in August in early darkness I am responsibleR
for these vinesS
