Summer Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFG HIIJGK LGMNOEK B

Remember the days of our first happinessA
how strong we were how dazed by passionB
lying all day then all night in the narrow bedC
sleeping there eating there too it was summerD
it seemed everything had ripenedE
at once And so hot we lay completely uncoveredF
Sometimes the wind rose a willow brushed the windowG
-
But we were lost in a way didn't you feel thatH
The bed was like a raft I felt us driftingI
far from our natures toward a place where we'd discover nothingI
First the sun then the moon in fragmentsJ
stone through the willowG
Things anyone could seeK
-
Then the circles closed Slowly the nights grew coolL
the pendant leaves of the willowG
yellowed and fell And in each of us beganM
a deep isolation though we never spoke of thisN
of the absence of regretO
We were artists again my husbandE
We could resume the journeyK
