| I walk the front lawn pretending | B |
| to be weeding You ought to know | C |
| I'm never weeding on my knees pulling | B |
| clumps of clover from the flower beds in fact | D |
| I'm looking for courage for some evidence | E |
| my life will change though | C |
| it takes forever checking | B |
| each clump for the symbolic | F |
| leaf and soon the summer is ending already | G |
| the leaves turning always the sick trees | H |
| going first the dying turning | B |
| brilliant yellow while a few dark birds perform | I |
| their curfew of music You want to see my hands | J |
| As empty now as at the first note | K |
| Or was the point always | L |
| to continue without a sign | M |
