Early Darkness Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCD EEFEFGH EIJJH KLMHE

How can you sayA
earth should give me joy Each thingB
born is my burden I cannot succeedC
with all of youD
-
And you would like to dictate to meE
you would like to tell meE
who among you is most valuableF
who most resembles meE
And you hold up as an exampleF
the pure life the detachmentG
you struggle to acheiveH
-
How can you understand meE
when you cannot understand yourselvesI
Your memory is notJ
powerful enough it will notJ
reach back far enoughH
-
Never forget you are my childrenK
You are not suffering because you touched each otherL
but because you were bornM
because you required lifeH
separate from meE
