A Fantasy Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDE FBGHIJ KLMGGDB AMNOPQ

I'll tell you something every dayA
people are dying And that's just the beginningB
Every day in funeral homes new widows are bornC
new orphans They sit with their hands foldedD
trying to decide about this new lifeE
-
Then they're in the cemetery some of themF
for the first time They're frightened of cryingB
sometimes of not crying Someone leans overG
tells them what to do next which might meanH
saying a few words sometimesI
throwing dirt in the open graveJ
-
And after that everyone goes back to the houseK
which is suddenly full of visitorsL
The widow sits on the couch very statelyM
so people line up to approach herG
sometimes take her hand sometimes embrace herG
She finds something to say to everbodyD
thanks them thanks them for comingB
-
In her heart she wants them to go awayA
She wants to be back in the cemeteryM
back in the sickroom the hospital She knowsN
it isn't possible But it's her only hopeO
the wish to move backward And just a littleP
not so far as the marriage the first kissQ
