Thoreau's Flute Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBACDEC FGGFHIJH KLLKMKKN OKKOPQQP

We sighing said Our Pan is deadA
His pipe hangs mute beside the riverB
Around it wistful sunbeams quiverB
But Music's airy voice is fledA
Spring mourns as for untimely frostC
The bluebird chants a requiemD
The willow blossom waits for himE
The Genius of the wood is lostC
-
Then from the flute untouched by handsF
There came a low harmonious breathG
For such as he there is no deathG
His life the eternal life commandsF
Above man's aims his nature roseH
The wisdom of a just contentI
Made one small spot a continentJ
And turned to poetry life's proseH
-
Haunting the hills the stream the wildK
Swallow and aster lake and pineL
To him grew human or divineL
Fit mates for this large hearted childK
Such homage Nature ne'er forgetsM
And yearly on the coverlidK
'Neath which her darling lieth hidK
Will write his name in violetsN
-
To him no vain regrets belongO
Whose soul that finer instrumentK
Gave to the world no poor lamentK
But wood notes ever sweet and strongO
O lonely friend he still will beP
A potent presence though unseenQ
Steadfast sagacious and sereneQ
Seek not for him he is with theeP
