From The Short Story Shadow-children Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBADED BFAFABAB ACGCAAHA EDADAIFI

Little shadows little shadowsA
Dancing on the chamber wallB
While I sit beside the hearthstoneC
Where the red flames rise and fallB
Caps and nightgowns caps and nightgownsA
My three antic shadows wearD
And no sound they make in playingE
For the six small feet are bareD
-
Dancing gayly dancing gaylyB
To and fro all togetherF
Like a family of daisiesA
Blown about in windy weatherF
Nimble fairies nimble fairiesA
Playing pranks in the warm glowB
While I sing the nursery dittiesA
Childish phantoms love and knowB
-
Now what happens now what happensA
One small shadow's tumbled downC
I can see it on the carpetG
Softly rubbing its hurt crownC
No one whimpers no one whimpersA
A brave hearted sprite is thisA
See the others offer comfortH
In a silent shadowy kissA
-
Hush they're creeping hush they're creepingE
Up about my rocking chairD
I can feel their loving fingersA
Clasp my neck and touch my hairD
Little shadows little shadowsA
Take me captive hold me tightI
As they climb and cling and whisperF
Mother dear good night good nightI
