To Alexander Berkman Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEBFGHIJCKL MNOPQRSTTMUVWTXTYTZA 2TAT

Can you see me SashaA
I can see youB
A tentacle of the vast dawn is resting on your faceC
that floats as though detachedD
in a sultry and greenish vaporE
I cannot reach my hands to youB
would not if I couldF
though I know how warmly yours would close about themG
WhyH
I do not knowI
I have a sense of shameJ
Your eyes hurt me mysterious openings in the gray stone of your faceC
through which your spirit streams out taut as a flagK
bearing strange symbols to the new dawnL
-
If I stay projected trembling against these bars filteringM
emaciated lightN
will your eyes that bore their lonely way through mineO
stop as at a friendly gateP
grow warm and luminousQ
but I cannot stay for the smellR
I know how the days passS
The prison squatsT
with granite haunchesT
on the young springM
battened under with its twisting greenU
and you socket for every boltV
piercing like a driven nailW
Eyes stare you through the barsT
eyes blank as a graveled yardX
and the silence shuffles heavy dice of feet in iron corridorsT
until the day that has soiled herself in this black holeY
to caress the pale mask of your faceT
withdraws the last wizened rayZ
to wash in the infiniteA2
her discolored handsT
Can you hear me SashaA
in your surrounded darknessT
