The Edge Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJK LMNOPH HCQR STNUACCV WXYZA2 B2D MC2

I thought to die that night in the solitude where they would never find meA
But there was timeB
And I lay quietly on the drawn knees of the mountainC
staring into the abyssD
I do not know how longE
I could not count the hours they ran so fastF
Like little bare foot urchins shaking my hands awayG
But I rememberH
Somewhere water trickled like a thin severed veinI
And a wind came out of the grassJ
Touching me gently tentatively like a pawK
-
As the night grewL
The gray cloud that had covered the sky like sackclothM
Fell in ashen folds about the hillsN
Like hooded virgins pulling their cloaks about themO
There must have been a spent moonP
For the Tall One's veil held a shimmer of silverH
-
That too I rememberH
And the tenderly rocking mountainC
SilenceQ
And beating starsR
-
DawnS
Lay like a waxen hand upon the worldT
And folded hillsN
Broke into a sudden wonder of peaks stemming clear and coldU
Till the Tall One bloomed like a lilyA
Flecked with sunC
Fine as a golden pollenC
It seemed a wind might blow it from the snowV
-
I smelled the raw sweet essences of thingsW
And heard spiders in the leavesX
And ticking of little feetY
As tiny creatures came out of their doorsZ
To see God pouring light into his starA2
-
It seemed life heldB2
No future and no past but thisD
-
And I too got up stiffly from the earthM
And held my heart up like a cupC2
